Tour itinerary

A wonderful journey from the sands of the Gobi Desert to the famous Orkhon Valley, craddle of the nomadic way of life in Mongolia.

With your private vehicle, driver and English speaking guide, you are free to decide to stop where and when you want for a picture or just to enjoy the incredible Mongolian landscape...

Day 1: Ulan Bator

Welcome to Mongolia!

Your English speaking translator is waiting for you at Ulan Bator airport at midday (arrival of Turkish Airlines flight - private transfer at extra cost if you are flying with another airline).

Visit of Gandantegchinlin Monastery and the National Museum of Mongolian History.

Dinner downtown and overnight at Dream hotel or similar (2*).

 

Day 2 : Ulan Bator - Flight to Dalanzadgad - Yoliin Am Canyon

Breakfast and transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Dalanzadgad in the Gobi Desert, in Southern Mongolia.

Off at midday, arriving in the afternoon.

Transfer to the Yurt Camp.

Route to the Yoliin Am canyon (40 km) for a hike through the canyon.

Picnic lunch en route.

Back to the Yurt Camp for dinner and overnight (2 to 4 persons per yurt, with single beds, showers in a separate building).


Day 3 : Yoliin Am Canyon - Khongor Els sand dunes

Breakfast and drive to the Khongor Els sand dunes.

Picnic lunch en route.

Arrival at the Khongor Els dunes yurt camp, for dinner and overnight (2 to 4 persons per yurt, with single beds, showers in a separate building).


Day 4 : Camel ride in Khongoryn Els sand dunes

Breakfast at the yurt (ger) camp.

Camel ride in Khongor Els dunes (Gobi Desert).

Lunch at the yurt camp.

Free afternoon, possibility to hike through the dunes and along the river.

Dinner and overnight at the yurt camp (2 to 4 persons per yurt, with single beds, showers in a separate building).

 

Day 5 : Khongor Els sand dunes - Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs

Breakfast, and drive to the north and Bayanzag "Flaming Cliffs", another major site of the Gobi Desert (Southern Mongolia).

Picnic lunch en route.

Short hike in the cliffs.

Dinner and overnight at the yurt camp (2 to 4 persons per yurt, with single beds, showers in a separate building).


Day 6 : Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs - Ongii Monastery

After the breakfast, we continue our journey to the North, leaving the Gobi Desert behind us.

We reach Ongii Monastery, in Central Mongolia.

Picnic lunch en route.

Visit of the monastery.

Dinner and overnight at the yurt camp (2 to 4 persons per yurt, with single beds, showers in a separate building).


Day 7 : Ongii Monastery - Kharkhorin (Karakorum)

Breakfast and departure towards Karakorum, former capital of Mongolia.

Picnic lunch en route.

Arrive late afternoon at the yurt camp in Karakorum.

Dinner and overnight at the yurt camp (2 to 4 persons per yurt, with single beds, showers in a separate building).


Day 8 : Kharkhorin (Karakorum) - Orkhon Valley

Breakfast and visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery.

Lunch at Karakorum.

Departure for the Orkhon Valley.

We are progressing slowly on tracks surrounded by the famous landscape of the Orkhon Valley.

Late afternoon we arrive at the yurts of the nomadic family where we will spend 2 nights.

Dinner and overnight in a guest yurt installed alongside that of our host family.

 

These 2 nights, we will sleep in a "guest-yurt" close to our nomad family's yurts.

The comfort is more simple than in the yurt camps as there are no showers, but you will experience the real nomadic way of life...


Day 9 : Orkhon Valley - Nomads life

Breakfast.

The day is devoted to the discovery of the traditional lifestyle of the nomads of Mongolia.
We can participate in these activities, and become acquainted with the various family members.
You'll find simple tips to facilitate contact with your host family on the site by clicking here

During the day, we can easily reach the famous Orkhon Falls, hiking or with the car.

In the evening, our hosts will prepare a traditional specialty, the Khorkhog, the "Mongolian barbecue".

Second night in the guest yurt at our nomad family home.


Day 10 : Orkhon Valley - Tsenkher Hot Springs

After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to our nomad friends, the end of a wonderful human experience, having shared moments of unparalleled freedom.

We must resume our journey to new Mongolian horizons...

Departure to the mountains above the Orkhon Valley, to the Tovkhon monastery .

Picnic lunch en route.

Route to the Tsenkher hot springs where we arrive late afternoon.

Relaxing in the thermal baths will erase the rigours of the journey, especially if you opt for massages (not included).

Dinner and night at the yurt camp (2 to 4 persons per yurt, with single beds, showers in a separate building).

 

Day 11 : Tsenkher Hot Springs - Ugii Nuur Lake

Breakfast and departure for Ugii Nuur Lake.

As we leave the mountain, the landscape becomes more open.

We cross vast expanses of desert and suddenly, like an oasis, a lake appears whose color ranges from silver grey to turquoise blue depending on the time of day.

Located 300 km west of Ulan Bator, Ugii Nuur Lake is a paradise for nature lovers as it hosts many migratory birds: cranes, different species of swans, ducks, wild geese, raptors and shorebirds...
An eco-center will provide all necessary information about this unique ecosystem, which can be enjoyed when hiking around the lake, on horseback (optional at extra cost) or by boat (optional extra).

Dinner and overnight at the yurt camp (2 to 4 persons per yurt, with single beds, showers in a separate building).

 

Day 12 : Ugii Nuur Lake - Ulan Bator

Breakfast and early departure to Ulan Bator where we arrive in the afternoon.

Picnic lunch.

The rest of the afternoon is dedicated to shopping downtown, where you will find traditional clothing and objects of daily life.

In the late afternoon, you will attend a show with traditional dances, music and songs from Mongolia, especially the amazing Khoomei.

No dinner included, to let you choose among the varied dining opportunities offered by Ulan Bator.

Night at Dream hotel or similar (2*).


Day 13 : Ulan Bator

Breakfast and transfer to airport on time for Turkish Airlines flight (private transfer at extra cost if you are flying with another airline).
